Healing My Son with Holistic + Energy Work (An Honest, Ongoing Story)
Have you ever watched your child struggle to breathe and felt completely powerless?
I have. And I’m not going to pretend I have this all figured out — because I don’t. But I do have three years of hard-won lessons in holistic healing for kids. A lot of hope, and a story I think a lot of you will recognize.
This post is the companion to my latest video, where I shared our family’s journey with my son’s allergies and asthma — the ER visits, the detective work, and the three approaches that have genuinely moved the needle for us. If you’re a mom navigating your own child’s health condition, I made this for you.
Quick note before we dive in: everything here is our personal experience, not medical advice. Please always work with your own child’s doctors and specialists — what helped us is not a substitute for that care.

The Day That Changed Everything
My son showed signs of allergies just days after we brought him home from the hospital. By two, he was diagnosed with severe allergies to wheat, dairy, and sesame.
And if you know food allergies, you know there’s no cure. We’re left to just managing symptoms with antihistamines, epinephrine, and steroids. We hope that desensitization therapy might help someday (it’s not a guarantee, and it takes a long time).
There were SO many ER visits over the years. Discovering new allergens. Cross-contamination. Plain mistakes. The slow, exhausting process of figuring out what his body could and couldn’t handle.
By the time he was three, we noticed that his health was deteriorating. His digestive system was not happy, giving him frequent bloating and diarrhea. He also started to have asthmatic attacks, all of them triggered by laughing too hard.
Then, three years ago, on a beautiful spring day, we went hiking. We stopped at a local ice cream shop, where we’d been to dozens of times before. They had sorbets and dairy-free ice creams, and that day, we tried a brand new flavor.
What resulted was the worst anaphylactic reaction of his life. I froze for a couple of seconds — I genuinely couldn’t breathe — before shaking myself out of it to give him his second epinephrine shot.
That night, after hours at the ER, my husband and I held each other and cried.
But here’s the thing about rock bottom moments (and I bet some of you know this feeling): they can wake something up in you. That night, the mama bear in me woke up, and our journey in holistic healing for kids started the very next day.

Our Holistic Healing Journey
I started to research what I could do to help my son breathe, digest, and be better. Be safer. I didn’t care if other people weren’t doing it. Whatever I thought could help, even just a little, I was willing to try.
So I got to work with all of my engines running. It resulted in a three-pronged approach, including environmental changes, naturopathic medicine, and energy healing.
Pillar One: Environmental Changes
Soon after that terrifying day, I went to see my Reiki teacher and shamanic healer, Sierra, at Muktinath Holistic Center in Monroe, CT. She told me something that stuck with me: it felt like my son’s body wanted to heal, but his ability to breathe was being hindered.

So I hired an air quality testing company (something naturopathic doctors recommend anyway). We didn’t have mold — thank goodness — but our volatile organic compound and CO2 levels were extremely high. Turns out our home had been over-insulated with spray foam, which is apparently a common issue now as homes chase energy efficiency. One contractor described it as “living in a plastic bag.” I wish I had known.
We installed an energy recovery ventilator to bring in filtered outside air without losing heating or cooling. Watching those air quality numbers spike before the ventilator kicked in was genuinely stressful — but afterward, things improved.
We also swapped our gas stove for an induction stove. (I love cooking with real fire, but not at the cost of my son’s lungs.) Our air quality improved even further, and now it’s something I can actually live with.

Was it expensive? Yes — I put a real chunk of my savings into these changes. Do I regret it? Not for one second. I am super grateful that we had the means to and that there was something we could do.
Pillar Two: Naturopathic Medicine
Next, we saw a pediatric naturopathic doctor and ran a full panel — blood, stool, urine — testing for toxicity, heavy metals, mold, and gut health.
The results were eye-opening. Elevated arsenic, even glyphosate (Roundup), several types of mold, and a microbiome that needed support. So many things were “red zone” high.
The doctor suspected that his immune system had been triggered early on. When we brought him home from the hospital after his birth, it was into a place that we had just fully renovated after 30 years of neglect. It could have been mold, it could have been construction debris. Whatever it was, the doctor thought, it shocked his young immune system into overreaction.

With the doctor’s help, we built a supplement regimen (sized appropriately for a small kid, since most formulations are designed for adults) and I found a way to get it into a daily smoothie.
It’s taken time and adjustment, but the mold has cleared significantly, and the glyphosate has detoxed. Many other things improved, too. We’re not at 100%, but we’re in a much better place than we were.

The tangible win here? His digestive issues — the diarrhea, the bloating, the discomfort after eating — are gone. He’s thriving on that front.

Pillar Three: Energy Healing
This is the piece closest to my heart, since it’s also about who I am.
I’d already been a Reiki master and meditator when this all began. But I’d never thought to actively use it on my son until that ER night woke me up. I had given him Reiki healings here and there, but nothing regular, nothing focused.
When the allergists had told me what to do (be ready with an epi) and what not to do (don’t let him eat these foods), I had taken their word for it and nothing more. (Allopathic doctors look at you funny if you even mention naturopathic care. I once heard one making fun of energy healing just outside our room, on an unrelated matter.)
But after this traumatic event, I started giving him coherence healing (a technique from Dr. Joe Dispenza‘s work, which is actually how my own energy healing journey began years ago) every day for six months straight. Alongside the environmental changes and naturopathic care, my son saw steady improvement in his health.
Then, about two years ago, I discovered Pranic Healing through my meditation circles. I researched it thoroughly and found that it offered specific energy healing protocols for conditions like asthma and allergies.
I went all in, and I’ve been giving my son Pranic Healing sessions at least twice a week, since.

Full transparency: Pranic Healing has different levels of study, and I’ve been advancing gradually — so my early sessions probably weren’t as effective as my more recent ones. I plan to continue this energy work alongside his medical care until his allergist confirms, through skin testing, blood testing, and oral challenges, that he’s cleared.
We’re not there yet. But we’re on the way.
Where We Are Now (Realistically)
I believe all three pillars — environmental, naturopathic, and energy healing — have contributed to where we are today. And here’s the number that matters most to me: his lung function tested at 63% capacity when we started. Our most recent test, without any steroid support, showed 84% capacity. He hasn’t had an asthma attack from laughing or exertion in three years.
Food allergy reactions still happen sometimes, but they’re noticeably milder than they were three years ago.
We’re not 100% there. But I am so, so grateful for the progress.

What Still Feels Challenging
Honestly? Continuing to take action amid setbacks. I want him healed yesterday. I want him to eat wheat, dairy, and sesame without fear, because the limitations are real and they’re hard.
But the truth is, healing is a step-by-step process. And surrendering to that pace is genuinely difficult. Over these two years, I’ve learned to let go of disappointment faster and pick up hope instead — consciously, again and again.
There’s also a strange paradox in energy healing itself: the more attached you are to the outcome, the less the energy seems to flow. So my biggest challenge as an energy healer treating her own child is learning to soften my grip on the outcome — to let the energy move without my fear and hope getting in its way.
Every day, I’m aware of how fortunate we are.
He’s breathing well. We have what we need if there’s an emergency. Not every family with a sick child has that kind of access, and my heart goes out to every mom watching this whose child’s condition is heavier than ours. I see you, and I’m sending you love and energy.
Final Thoughts
This story isn’t wrapped up with a bow, and I’m not going to pretend it is. We’re still making smoothies, still doing sessions, still watching lung function tests. It’s ongoing — and I’ll keep sharing updates as things change.
If you’re interested in holistic healing for your kid, or in energy healing for a special needs child, I hope this gave you a little hope, a little company, and maybe one idea worth trying.
